Watch this 'Sexual Abuse' video with your child

Wow, what a beginning to 2014! In my earlier post i did mention that it could be my last post for the year 2013 , but seems like I couldn't resist post my latest blog on 'Child Sexual Abuse'. No this time it's not about 'Talking Pants'

This time I am so glad to find this video on 'Child Sexual Abuse' while browsing on of the major social media site. And I was more than surprised to know that it has been created for Indian Society and very much related to Indian perspective.

It could be that many of you Samrt momz would have come across this video, but am sharing it here in my post again for momz like me who wasn't aware of it.

The best part about this video is that you can watch this video along with your child and make them understand the subject i.e Child Sexual Abuse.

It's really nice to see that the concept to awareness to educate a child about his sexual and physicall safety is given a thought in India too.

In my previous post on Child Sexual Abuse, I have mentioned that the main reason behind this heinous act of crime is the lack of sexual abuse education from parents and communication gap between a child and parent.

One can educate their child about Child sexual abuse by with out even mentioning the word 'Sex'. And parents can make the communication channels simple with just a simple 'Underwear Rule'. Gone those days when in India the concept of 'Talking Sex' is considered taboo. For young parents like me who often worries about Child's sexual safety in Urban cities or in small towns, this video could be of great help for them. The best part about the urban parenting style is that it open ups to the hushed away topics like child emotional abuse, physical abuse, child sexual abuse and so.  We should be glad that such informative and parenting materials are available good enough to keep our child safe. These annoying henious acts were very much prevalent in olden days but there were no solutions to it. And now as we have some parenting tools and literature material easily available to combat such acts, so we should make best of it and keep our child safe.

So, start 'talking pants' and watch this video with your child to create awareness about Child Sexual Awareness

Christmas Calling>> Bienvenue à Pondy

A big hello to all smart momz out there. This could be my last post for the year 2013. I'll be soon penning my post on my new year celebration with my little angel and caring hubby.

I know you all must have had fun during Christmas celebrations and must be super-duper busy with New Year plans.

What we all actually do in Bangalore is either party hard or head towards Pondy or Goa (Nearest holiday spot for Bangloreans).  So this time we picked Pondy, the most awaited trip for us, since we got married i.e 12 Dec 2009.
@Pondy beach

Whenever we planned to visit Pondy either we were struck by some natural calamities endangering the coastal regions like Cyclone laila or so or just then we wanted to head towards Goa.

So finally things were all set this time, no climate thingy playing spoils sport neither we were inclined to visit Goa this time. Pondicherry, fondly known as Pondy and has been officially known by alternative name Puducherry since 2006.

We started our road trip quite early, at 6:15 am we were all geared up for a long drive towards the most french influenced place in the country.

Thanks to navigation application, it's like blessing specially for a person like me who often get confused on road trip and keeps on asking for route to every person passing now and then.

Luckily Erishka was sleeping, almost throughout the route and so it was convenient for my hubby to concentrate on driving and knowing roads. Yes we did tread on wrong way once, but with God;s grace we got back to right path soon.

Erishka funtime and nasa naps during road trip

The best part of the trip was the accommodation, we were checking out many hotels but didn't get confirmed booking from anywhere. We were actually disappointed thinking that we might need to cancel our plans to visit Pondy this time too. I was also suffering from bad shouldr + neck sprain and Erishka was too behaving cranky as she was teething. All things working towards not to visit Pondy, this time too :-( But still with right set of mind and positive attitude we kept our plan on, and started our road trip.
@Promenade Beach walk
I couldn't have asked for something better, guess what ? Finally Akshaye got a call from 'The Retreat' - official  hotel stay of Aurobindo Aashram. As name suggest it's an awesome retreat to rejuvenate oneself. It has B&B with delicious south indian breakfast and a helpful staff!  The ocean is right opposite the hotel. You wake up to the sound waves of ocean. What more you can ask for?

The location is just perfect , right on the promenade and walking distance from the Aurobindo Aashram and other tourist attraction. the best part is it's dual entry, one leads to beach and the backside towards the Aurobindo Aashram. Erishka enjoyed reading introductory books on 'The Mother' and 'Aurobindo' given complimentary by the Retreat.  While walking on Promenade beach one can actully enjoy the glances of Old Custom House, Old Light House, some church here and there. There are bunch of roadside hawkers selling yummy channa chats, sweet corn boiled and roasted, candy floss, ice-creames and the list is endless.

Erishka's first Christmas (2012) was very much in Bangalore, where she continuously starred at Chrismas Tree ornaments and other decorations around the city. This year 2013 she enjoyed beach play swings at pondy, visited Sacred Heart church, observed Jesus Christ Crib and other decorations on the streets of Pondy.
Erishka having funtime at beach & playing with sea shells

We also explored various roadside pottery shops, handicraft boutiques, incense shop, confectioneries items at bakers' street. We met wonderful people too, an aged Gujarati uncle who helped us to know more about the food at Aashram (helpful for Erishka, as they serve Khichidi and fresh whole milk), a lady at Nava Vihaan who played puzzles with Erishka till i finished my shopping, a lady at Aashram Dinning hall who was from Orissa but wanted to talk to me as she heard me speaking hindi, Tea stall owner who served awesome tea and fresh milk for Erishka (You won't believe, he also wash cleaned it with hot water and sterelise it too).
A humble chaiwalla - sos when Erishka was cranky
While driving towards pondy from Gingee Fort, we paused for a while to ask the route or rather re-confirm the Navigators direction, and then Erishka waved hand and smile to the Bananna seller, he gave her two Banana (Though we refrained taking it from staranger, but he insisted so I had to respect this gesture). Love the place, people and beach @ Pondy.

Erishka had big time fun, while on car she loved counting bus, snoring, eating and at promenade beach she loved walking all alone. Roads are just awesome, with an high plinth built ans traffic restrictions. To explore the city at it's best , one need to take a stroll here and there, so it's a good idea to carry a stroller so that it becomes easy to explore the place.

We bought Erishka's first Pinwheel at promenade beach, awesome cotton cloths for her, Cardboard books on Ballad of Joe's (From inland Library) and Shapes Circular Puzzles from Nava Vihaan - Paper craft and utility shop of Aashram. Erishka truely enjoyed at Beach too, she played with splashy waves, sand dunes and collected few sea shells too. It was really hard to take her off the beach, she was reluctant to come out.

A quick view to Amethyst
Apart from strong French influence who will also find art, culture and people from Tibet (Buddhists), Orissa, Bengal and Gujarat too. We explored few handicrafts shops by Tibetans, Oriya and Kashmiris too. If you love to do some chick shopping then 'Pondy' is your destination. We also walked doing all window shopping at ever corwded Mission Street (Looks like Brigade , Mg road of Bangalore) and glanced over the funky boutique Casablanca, also notice Anglo-Indian French Textile Business unit, Ali baba - antics, pottery, jewelry and exquisite linens.

After my much awaited my FabIndia haul, I'll now brag upon retail therapy with Kalki, filled with candles and incense and my personal favourite Handbag Brand - Hidesign . La Maison Rose is a stately pastel pink villa with a sun filled salon that houses fashion and interiors boutiques.

A quick view to Amethyst
I was in total love with the Pondy when I stepped into Amethyst. I highly recommend this as it has chic / kids accessories , jewelry and clothes (Women and kids both) and also a french influence countyside cafe. Akshaye had a glass of beer and Erishka was enjoying her milk, while I was busy admiring the interiors and art at Amethyst.
Erishka and dad are enjoying their drink

We also re-visted Indian History at The Pondycherry Museum, which is displayed in a centuries old building. It has amazing collection of fossils of earthen utensils, some barrels dated from harrapan civilization and also an amusing collection of ancient coins from Rome, France, Germany, India, China and so. It also shards of old Roman pottery and burial pots and urns.
A closer view to Amethyst
One can actually feel some what french for a day with the amazing collection of french art in form of paintings, huge mirrors, porcelain and rare furniture from 18th century. Star attraction to the museum is an age old classic rare furniture from the 18th century, belonging to royals, governors and generals and also a very attractive ornamented bed that belonged to Governor Dupleix.

View from our hotel room @ Promenade Beach
Pondy is full of free spirit, art, culture, excellent hospitality and awesome beach, with no flies or a sting of stink ( what we generally experience in India beach). I got good amount of my meditation, healthy south Indian breakfast and local meals too. I use to go for mediation daily as my hubby use to take care of little one. It's a real divine experience to meditate in the Aurobindo Ashram. I also tried one time meal at Aashram, I did not like it much as it was way too bland for me sans sugar and salt. I did not waste though and finished it nicely. I was amused with the utensils they use to serve and huge serving in huge bowls and glass, I wonder how did I manage to finish. We use to also refill Erishka's bottle with Whole milk available at Aashram Dinning hall.
Erishka and me on a swing @pondy beach
I found people very friendly, passing smile and helping each other, compassionate  and humble in nature.  I highly recommend to all smart momz who loves to travel with kids, as this place is excellent in hospitality, safe enough for kids to play carefree and very helping people around to guide you if you are stuck. It's an excellent children friendly destination for mom like me who loves to travel along with kid.

I am in simply love with this place, one of my blog reader Soumya is already set for a trip to Pondy for New Year. I wish she too loves the place, enjoy her stay and explore with her little rockstar too.

One of my blog reader and meet up member (Hima) is also in love with the same city, we both are thinking to buy a cottage for our life time staycation. It's an absolute destination to let your hair loose , relax, and feel the nature.

We smart momz in Bangalore also dream planning to do scuba diving soon ;-) all rough plans but lets see how much we can execute. It's not crime to dream anyways, isn't?
A view from boat ride towards pondy beach
I'll be waiting for all comments and feedback from you all.. Watch this place for more travel diaries, my wishlist and resolutions for 2014
So all smart momz, get out, get going let your child feel the breeze...

Christmas Calling>> Weekend Art by Rishabh Joshi

Here is a quick look to what my 4 year old nephew made. It's a Christmas card (handmade by him) for his little sister Erishka.
My sister sent me some in making pics through WatsApp. First she sent the mess he made it , she was annoyed. I just sent her message saying he is just like me messy monsters (that's what I do when I sit with my crafts).
After 20 mins or so she sent me few images of art made by him. And trust me , the mess was worth of it. He is messy yet creative like me. I  miss him so much, so dos the meethi.

So all smart mommies do not stop your kids to make mess during Christmas holidays. Trust me it's worth doing so as you get amazing results which is loaded with love.

Momz Buzz>> Is 'Kim Kardashian' a bad mother?

Heylos to all smart moms, here am again writing about one more celeb mom. Not again, I somehow fail to understand that why everyone around a new born starts behaving as if the new mom doesn't know what is right for her child.

I have also noticed that it also happens to normal moms like us too. We are being and been judge, cross-checked and convicted for something we put more than 100 per cent.

The latest mom in a buzz is Kim Kardashian. The new hot-mamma was immediately backlashed by her fans and followers on twitter just after posting the pic of her smiling daughter North on her instagram profile.

Social media and other forms of frinzy media made a speculation that Kim has waxed / groomed her child's eyebrow.  How strange it can be? While reading  one of the online taboloid, I came across this news and was in a shock.
Just by reading headlines, I actually thought, that she could have groomed her child's eyebrow and how can she ever think of doing that. I thought visiting her
Instagram profile and see myself with naked eyes. North (Kim's daughter) who just turned 6 months, was looking beautiful in that pic. lovely smile, with torch like eyes and beautifully shaped eyebrows. (Please note NATURALLY).

I had no second thought and also needn't take a closer look  of North's Instagram, she was obviously blessed with naturally arched shaped eye-brow.

Few hours later Kim herself slammed her fans by tweeting,  "Do people really think I would wax my daughters eyebrows so young? Come on, I’d wait until she’s at least 2 1/2!" and before any one misunderstands her once again, she posted one more tweet, "I'm kidding!!! Its pretty sick for people to insinuate that I would wax my daughters eyebrows. They are thick, natural and amazing!"

Even though she slarified to her fans and slammed at followers on social media, but critics still claimed that she either photoshopped the image or waxed North West's eyebrows by suggesting there was a clear difference in the 6-month-old's current appearance versus last month's snapshots.

When I saw the picture, every bit of child looked natural and untouched. I must say the hot mamma is blessed with beautiful baby girl.  Let me put it this way, when a women steps into motherhood, she is for sure to slip easily in her second life of being mom. And I firmly think 'Mom knows the best'. So all critics out there stop speculating.

So let the paparazzi blabber whatever they want....  Stay calm and be happy mom.

Tips and tricks>> How to raise healthy kids?

Tips & Tricks>>How to raise healthy kids?

These days the most talked about topic of discussion among moms is how to raise healthy kids? The answer is very simple, build strong immunity system for healthy kids. We were having 3 day long discussion in my WatsApp group, where all the smart mommies shared their home-made SoS tips to fight common cold and other infection.

In this article I will put down some home-made tips and tricks to build strong immunity and will also share my secret recipe for 'health drink' for kids.

A strong immune system is very important for kids when it comes to preventing diseases, a weak immune system increases the chances of becoming ill with any type of infection, low immunity can detected if some of these signs are present.

Keep in mind that home remedies immune system are very useful for strengthen your health. Following are the most common diseases in infants/toddlers with low immune system.

-Chronic infections
-Frequent colds and flu
-Frequent cold sores or genital herpes
-Chronic digestive problem
-Low appetite
-having fever on/off

Here are the tips and trick for how to build strong immune system for kids. I have categorise it into three sections; 1) Immune boosting nutrients 2) Lifestyle factors 3) Other super foods

1) Immune boosting nutrients
a) Vitamin C -   Vitamin C helps strengthen the body’s resistance to pathogens. Vitamin C is also quickly depleted during illness, so it’s important to make sure kids continue to get enough of it if they do end up sick. There is vitamin C in most of the tropical fruits like guava, oranges, lemons and grapefruit. There is handful of vitamin C in vegies like bell peppers, papaya, strawberries and broccoli. Even for Iron to get absorbed in your body needs Vitamin C to function. Try making tasty and healthy fruti and vegetable juices, smoothies which are highly rich in vitamin C.

Vitamin C may be the single most important nutrient for the immune system. It is essential for the formation of adrenal hormones and the production of lymphocytes. It also has direct effect on bacteria and viruses. Vitamin C acts as an immune enhancer by helping white blood cells perform at their peak and quickening the response time of the immune system.

Try to include papaya,
broccoli, bell, pepper, strawberries, broccoli, pineapple, kiwi fruit, oranges, cantaloupe, lemon, juice, cauliflower in your kid's daily diet. Here are few amazing  healthy yet tasty soup recipes to build strong immunity for your early toddler / older infants.

b) Vitamin A - Not only does vitamin A stimulate immune processes, it protects the lining of the gastrointestinal tract.  Vitamin A is an antioxidant that helps your body fight cancer cells and is essential in the formation of white blood cells. Vitamin A also increases the ability of antibodies to respond to invaders. Vitamin A is found in high levels in carrots, sweet potatoes, and leafy greens. A cup of kale will give you your daily requirement of vitamin A.

C)Carotenes  - Beta-carotene is found in carrots and other red, yellow, orange, and dark-green leafy vegetables. they are basically the protectors of the immune system. Carotenes strengthen white blood cell production, and numerous studies have shown that eating foods rich in beta-carotene helps the body fight off infection more easily.

d)Vitamin D -  The best way to get more vitamin D?  Let you kid spend 10-15 minutes per day in the sun! That's the reason that doctors insist on giving sunbath to newborns and infants atleast till age of 12-15 months. Also see to it that your little one is not directly to the harsh sun, only time between 7:30-8:00 am (India).  Other food sources for vitamin D include milk, almonds and eggs.  If you feel like your kids are not getting enough vitamin D, you may give them vitamin D suplements like drops or pwd form (I use to use, D-rise ) and one can also use cod-liver oil capsules.

e)Zinc - Deficiency of Zinc is not something that you often hear about, isn't it? But lack of zinc can compromise white blood cell numbers and apparently the immune response.  A common sign of a lack of zinc is an impaired sense of taste and/or smell.  Try including mushrooms, spinach, almonds, sesame and pumpkin seeds in your daily diet.

2) Lifestyle factors

a)Sleep - A sound and peaceful sleeps leads to healthy life. Ensure that your little one gets appropriate amount of sleep as per his age and activity routine.

Like infants should sleep around 18 hrs, toddlers should sleep around 10-12 hrs (not more as it restricts the other development), teenagers or grown up kids should sleep around 8-10 hrs a day.

Improper sleep routine or lack sleep leads to reluctant behaviors towards meals and child becomes irritable and cries for no void reason. So raise a happy baby ensure he sleeps well for his healthy life.

b)Sugar - If there is one thing that will go a long way in helping your child avoid sickness this winter it is to cut way back on their sugar intake. I know some of you think I’m crazy over here and that this is an impossible task. Doctors keep emphasizing on to avoid sugar? Do you know why ?

First, sugar intake causes tooth decay if dental /oral routine is not taken care of. And second, it lowers the immune system and delays the healing process in our body. So a big 'NO' to sugar coated candies or other confectionery.

Instead of sugar you may use brown sugar, honey or jaggery. Brown sugar and jaggery is highly rich in Iron while honey has abundance nutrients value. Sugar not only gives sore throat or infection but also slower down your kids immunity functions.

c) Processed food - Junk food /preserved food/ processed food, all of them are having zero value for nutrients or other healthy supplements.

They also have toxic materials like high amount salt, soda, gmo and other ingredients which gradually depletes your kid's immunity system.

So a big shout from my side, 'NO PROCESSED FOOD'. If your kid love fast food like pasta, noodles here is the recipe of Home-made wheat pasta/noodles.

3) Other Immunity boosters

a) Ginger and Garlic - Garlic has many amazing health properties, both preventative and healing.  From an immune system perspective, garlic is a surface immune stimulant – meaning that it helps  the body to resist those bugs.  Garlic also has antibiotic properties  - killing off bacteria, viruses and parasites.  Of course, most kids aren't going to just eat a clove of garlic on its own, So from now on wards you can add few chopped garlic cloves in to your meal and make the meal healthy and boost the immunity of your kid.

Ginger comes to the aid when we're sick in some powerful ways. Besides soothing a scratchy throat, it has chemicals called sesquiterpenes that target rhinoviruses - which are the most common family of cold viruses - as well as substances that help suppress coughing. Ginger is also a natural pain and fever reliever. Add few oinch of ginger powder +honey and make sure your kids have it twice a day during winter. It will help to keep cold and fever at bay.

b) Mint and basil

Tingling Mint offers soothing relief from cramping, bloating, constipation and diarrhea associated with irritable bowel syndrome.

Menthol, the active ingredient in mint, relaxes muscles by blocking the flow of calcium, the chemical messenger that causes muscles to contract.

You can prepare a Kada (the special recipe i mentioned in the beginning of this post) by adding few leaves of mint, ginger, pepper corns in boiling water and let your little one sip this solution and get quick relief from sorethroat, cough, nasal block.

Basil is cultivated for religious and medicinal purposes, and for its essential oil. Tulsi/Basil is the sacred 'Queen of Herbs' of India. It has been a principal herb in the ancient holistic healing system of Ayurveda for over 5000 years. Basil is known for its potential anti-viral, antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. Basil leaves can strengthen the stomach and induce sweating. The seeds can be used to rid the body of excess mucus. So next time you have tea for yourself, don't forget to prepare a hot beverage (the special recipe i mentioned in the beginning of this post) with milk, basil, honey and ginger (of course, no ta leaf for kiddo) and build strong strong immunity. You can also boil basil leaves with cardamom in about two quarts of water, then mixed with sugar and milk, brings down temperature. An extract of basil leaves in fresh water should be given every 2 to 3 hours; between doses you can give sips of cold water. This method is especially effective for reducing fevers in children.

b)Probiotics - Probiotics plays an important role in developing strong immune system. Also ensure that these good bacteria i.e probiotics are included in daily diet of your kids.   Probiotics can be found in fermented foods such as yoghurt, kefir, unpasturized sauerkraut or kimchi, organic miso or tempeh, and naturally fermented pickles.

Adding a cup of curd/yogurt in your child’s regular diet, can serve him good amount of good bacteria.  These good bacteria is Lactobacillus reuteri which has been found to block the replication of viruses that invade the body when we get sick. Not all brands have that particular bacteria, so check labels and be sure to go organic. Include yummy smoothies, lassi, fruit lassi, buttermilk, raita in your little ones' diet.

c)Protien - All smart momz know that protein is one of the important ingredient in their kids meal. But am sure that rarely do they know why. Protein plays an important role in building a healthy immune system.

Amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein, are also the building blocks of the immune system – they help create white blood cells and antibodies.

Make sure your kids are getting lots of high-quality protein daily. Green leafy vegetables, dairy products, quinoa, beans, oats, avocado, almonds, soy bean, broccoli are commonly known high-protein foods.

d)Hygienic - Make sure you and you family members follow strict hygiene routine at home as well as while travelling out of station. The best thing you could do for child's hygiene is to inculcate a regular 'Hand-washing' habit in them.

Hand washing does play an important role in avoiding sickness (and stopping the spread of germs), and kids should wash their hands often, especially during the cold and flu season.

To encourage healthy life for kids we should -make sure that hygienic routine is followed strictly by everyone in house like keeping the bedspread clean, no towels or hand towel sharing, change tooth-brush every 3 months, sanitize visitors hands (for infants).

I hope my tips and tricks will help you all smart momz to maintain good health and strong immune system for you r little one.

Maintain high hygiene,  feed them fresh and raise healthy kids.

Defining an 'Uber Cool Mom' in my way..

In this new age parenting in India, defining an Uber cool mom has become very obvious and unavoidable term. The new age mom is no more a 'mom who keeps herself only focused with household chores or family life'. The uber cool mom has a life to live beyond the 'stereotype' mom defined in medieval India (which still prevails in many parts of India too).

The new age mom lives her life beyond just changing nappies, pleasing in-laws, cooking for all and teaching kids. Uber cool mom has a life of her own, where she lives her passion to do something for herself. Like socialising with like minded friends or smart moms and pursuing her career, passion or hobbies too.

Here am not talking about kitty party stuff, where ladies just get together to chit-chat gossips and show off their solitaires and designer saree, thats so not cool? Argh! I somehow feel I do not fit in that group. It's better I keep mum (no pun intended) on kitty party and girlie stuffs.

Giving a some more perspective thinking for ubercool mom / smart momz, I thought of a starting a ‘Meet up’ for ‘Smart Momz’.

The group really got good response, there were mails overflowing from working moms, smart momz at home, stay at home working moms, mompreneurs.

They all were keen and eager to meetup and share their experience with like minder career women or smart mom at home. As the meet was schedule in the first week of march, but then everybody were so eager to connect with each other personally rather virtually we  decided to advance the date.

Than I also included meet up members to my WatsApp group called ‘Smart Momz’. Soumya was the first one who expressed her interest and happen to drop her number to my mailbox.

What kept me worrying all time was unwanted people to be specific, guys with weird profile (must me fake or spam or some desperadoes) … Like name suggests all members of Smart Momz (Me, pallavi, archie, shilpi, mansi, soumya) found it skeptical and fishy about it…

Then after following up with all and getting their details, I sent out a group mail from my id, of course keeping those bugger off argh!!.

I mentioned that we’ll keep all schedule details under the carpet hushedddd and we’ll connect only through calls, WatsApp and emails…. no more discussing meeting in public forum. Thanks to Soumya for this wonderful idea.

So as I was writing about defining Uber cool mom, I opted to pause my thoughts, views and feeling for a while till I catch up in 'reality' with my Smart Momz readers and Smart momz from meet up.

Looking forward for my first meet up with Smart Momz in Bangalore. For all my Smart Momz readers I do not want you to miss out the fun… I will keep you posted about my experiences and what all topics we discussed with my special snippet.

So watch this space for more and more fun, activity, learning and sharing.

Christmas Calling: Top 10 activities for kids

Heylos to all smart mommies, am sure you all must be gearing up for festive seasons and must be super busy little Santa at home.

It has been real  hectic week for me. As we celebrated my hubby's birthday and also our 4th wedding anniversary. Last year we made a point that our little princess visits church and also observes beautiful decorations for Christmas all over the town.

This year she has grown a bit, she can understand a lot many things than before. Besides just giving starry look at the Christmas ornaments, she can now also extends herself to grab one of them.

She loves watching Santa movies on Youtube and also enjoys listening the very famous Santa's song 'Jingle bell, jingle bell'So what else I can do to make her Christmas feel much special, like never before. I went back to my childhood days , when we used to play secret angel game, Christmas stories, birthday of Jesus and how my mom used to secretly keep my Christmas gift under my pillow as a gift by Santa.

She use to always say that Santa gives gift only to good children and who obeys their parents.

Along with my sister and my god brother I use to make a Christmas tree and decorate it, thinking that Santa might get impressed by my decorations and so he may overlook my faults.

Never the less we all use to eagerly wait for Santa to knock the door or make some noise like 'Ho! Ho! Ho!' and so that we can meet him personally and handover our wishlist. I used keep my wishlist under the pillow and sleep over it, dreaming about Santa coming over my room, read my wish list and leave me a gift and a letter.

Reliving my childhood memories of Christmas celebration, I have listed out few fun activities to with your toddler and infants.

1) Cake making with no 'bake'

If your have toddler, running around the house and trying to imitate you like 'Monkey see, Monkey do'. Then this is the best fun activity for them, to keep them occupied during Christmas holidays. Your little messy monster could be the best kitchen helper for you.

Just involve them in cake making process like measuring ingredients, putting things in container, mixing and of course licking the leftover int he bowl. Of course they are not allowed to bake or even choke the oven or microwave.

You can only involve them in Cake making process till mixing and not the baking one. If you are making frozen cake, then also make sure they are supervised while opening and closing the doors of freezer.

2) Cookies/cake decoration

For the little early toddlers and late infants like my little princess 'Erishka', you may involve them in cookie or cake decoration process. They are amazing with picking colours, placing gems on the cookie or to just spread the icing with their exclusive messy effect.

If you are not in mood to bake any fresh cookies of cake you can just buy few short breads with different shapes or cake toast from the nearest bakery. And also buy some fresh creame, choco chips, gems and so for the decorations. Trust me you will enjoy making theses colourful peices with your little helper.

3) Make a 'Christmas' Art

With the grown up kids you can ask them to assemble the Christmas tree, decorate it or even ask them to prepare some Christmas ornaments. Toddlers has amazing creativity when it comes to art.

They are full of energy and creativity so make best use of them. You can ask them to do some christmas crafts like making Santa Claus (with old tin or can), snowmen (with cotton), make crib for Jesus, the list is endless.

4) Hand and foot prints art

As infants or early toddler still mastering their motoring skills, you can help them to create an innovative Christmas art with their little hand prints and foot prints. Make sure you do not use any toxic colour.

What I have (Image on left is Erishka's foot print with haldi - turmeric) planned to do with Erishka is that to create a footprint with the help of Turmeric+water paste and place it upside down (like a conical mountain) and then will allow it to rest for half a day.

After it's dried completely I will paint her foot print with green paint. Once it's dried will ask her to put dot-dot-dots on tree with her crayons or fingerprints.

Also I'll try to find some Christmas stickers so that she can place it on it. Once I complete this art with Erishka I will soon share with you all smart mommies to get inspired and share your own.

5) Watch Christmas Movies
It will be a real fun ride and am sure you will feel nostalgic when you watch your Childhood Christmas movies with your little ones. There lot of interesting Christmas movies for kids like Jingle All the Way (1996), The Polar Express (2004), Millions (2004), Home Alone (1990) to name few.

6) Read them a Christmas story
Before slipping into their blanket, make them read or readout to them a nice colourful Christmas book. They will love the pictures and will broaden their horizon of creativity along with it. They enjoy and also be curious to read more and more about Christmas. The list is endless for Christmas books like A Christmas Tale, 12 Merry Christmas, Geronimo!, A Christmas Carol and so on.

7) Make a wishlist

This is the most interesting part of Christmas, I enjoyed listing my wishes in a piece of paper so that it Santa can grant all my wishes. You can do this activity with a grown up kids or toddlers, who can actually list out the things they want. For infants you can make the wishlist on behalf of your infant's, and see to it that it gets fulfilled.

8) Play the Secret  Angel game

Am sure you all must have played a very famous Secret Angel game with your friends and family in childhood.

For this game the more the merrier. First of all write a name of each family member, fold it in a chit and drop it in a bowl. After that sit in a circle and everyone has to pick one chit each.

All the participant has to open the chit secretly and not to show or tell anyone about whose name is written in their chit.

After knowing the name written on one's chit, one has to become a secret angel to the person whose name is written on chit.

A secret angel is suppose to leave a secret message, poem, gifts and other surprises the person. And on the Christmas eve, one has to try guessing their own secret angel and if unable to do so, the angel can himself disclose the name.

There is no win or lose in this game. The game is about underlying secret fun, surprises and feel good factor with the family and friends. The entire game revolves around the curiosity, spy check, spookiness and a must joyride for Christmas fun.

9) Christmas card making

This is the most sensitive Christmas activity you could do with your toddler. Ask your little one to list out names of family or friends whom he wishes to send Christmas greetings in a special way.

He can make a small cute card with a nice Christmas though on it. He can sketch a family picture or his favourite cartoon or even do some finger paint.

Set him free with pencil, colours and other card making accessories. Your child will definitely enjoy making own creation in form of a card. He can also write a letter with a Christmas message on it and about how he is spending his holidays.

This activity will enable your child to write interactive communication and express his emotions in words. His writing and drawing skills will get better and better as every Christmas passes by. And of course your family can witness it every season by receiving an hand-made card by your little one.

10)Gift making / gift wrapping

This activity is exclusively for the grown up toddlers who can use scissors and glue with no handling hassles.

You can create wonderful hand-made gifts like decorative Christmas stockings, a Christmas wreath, candles, hand-made gift boxes/bags, a snowman, Christmas in a mason jar and lot many other quick and easy gift items.

If your kid is not big enough to use scissor or sticky glue, you may involve him in gift wrapping session. Gift wrapping can also be innovative like chocolate packing, ruffled packing, burlap wrap or you can just simply ask him to stick tape where you've already creased.  You can make it more interesting by giving your child to paint lots of scrap paper like magazines , newspaper and use the same for gift wrapping purpose.

So what all you smart moms waiting for, this Christmas enjoy these suggested fun activity with your little ones. If you are trying something new, please with my readers too! (Sharing is caring)

Put on your creative hat, let your kid join in too!
