Enjoy Monsoon Sans Any Dampness!

Monsoon is the most loved season, especially by kids as they weave their lifetime memories. From lush green tree-tops to misty landscapes, from puddles to paper boats, monsoon weaves endless memories to cherish lifetime, isn’t it?
While monsoon welcome muddy, yet pleasant fragrance, it allows opens door for numerous problems. From viral health diseases to life loss due to floods, from massive property damages to monsoon hit city, monsoon is capable to bring miseries too.   

As a child I use to love monsoon for more than one reason. I use to love dancing in rain carelessly, eat steaming hot pakodas, participate in local paper boat race, and the best part was declared holidays in school ;) I remember my mom always busy drying clothes all day and screaming at us to keep our dirty shoes outside the house. But now being a mom I do understand her concern for high hygiene and health especially during monsoons. #monsoonhygiene

It’s very common to have little bit of cold or running nose during monsoon, just like finding few rough patches with seeping leakages. But dare not ignore any of them as it may lead to disastrous effect on health of home and family.  

The much awaited season of the year monsoon lingers with few early rains and heavy storms every now and then. Also it’s a myth that once should start fixing the house repairs, loose wires, leakages, and dampness only after season is over. The rainy season makes you and family vulnerable to diseases and your house likely breed insects, bugs due to dampness, humidity, and water leakage too.
So, it’s high time not to wait for season to get over, put on your gum-boots and start working towards making your house monsoon proof. Here are few tips and tricks to maintain high hygiene level in your house for you and your family.
  1. Choose Dry Over Wet To Clean Furniture
    Keep you furniture shinny and clean by cleaning it with dry cloths, vacuum cleaner, or special furniture cleaning solutions. Its known fact that water is not at all wood’s friend. So use special cleaning agents to clean wooden furniture. There are many cleaning products are readily available in the market.
  2. Roll All mats, rugs and Carpets:
    Monsoon season makes your carpet moisten, humid and thus, with no or minimal sunlight it can easily breed  pest in your house. So it’s always a good idea to disinfect, clean, and roll away your carpet and store it in dry place. Make sure you do not use your favorite carpets until the rainy season has gone.
  3. Change Your Floor Cleaning Solution
    Rainy season also brings creepy crawlers like rodents, bugs and what not. So make you’re your floor cleaning solution is strong enough to fight the germs which are threat to your family health. Also try to keep your floor dry by mopping regularly to keep the dampness away. Use effective floor cleaning solution or you may also add any medicated or antiseptic solutions.

  1. Fix All Loose Wires!
    Make sure you fix all unattended, loose wires inside as well as outside house before it starts raining. Don’t ever ignore any loose or faulty wires to avoid any mishaps or life loss as water leakages is sure to cause short circuits or any electrical accidents.
  2. Fight Dampness To Keep Your House Pest Free:
    Make sure that you do away with any kind of dampness to keep your house pest free. A moist, wetty and humid climate welcomes pests like fleas, moths and carpet beetles.  Keep your house safe from pest by keeping it dry. Make sure there is no dampness in the house and your house is ventilated enough. You can use ventilators, naphthalol or phenyl balls, to prevent entrance and growth of pest. A well ventilated house, without any traces of dampness will also keep your family healthy.
  3. Say No To Any Kind Of Home Renovation
Getting any kind of home renovation in monsoon is of course a bad idea.  It is observed house renovation may lead to cracks in the walls, and thus leading to water leakage.   1. Prepare Your Drainage System for Monsoon:
We often see TV channels flashing headlines focusing on over flooding of gutter lines, or poor sanitation in the city. To avoid such mishaps it’s highly important that you take charge of your drainage system and upgrade the same. You can do so by installing trench drain to driveway slopes, sidewalks and other solid surfaces to prevent it from running down right into your house, and also connect the downspouts to underground drains that will carry the water away from your house.
Don’t forget to unclog at least once in a week, so that you face any clogged drains, and gutter water running in your house premises. Poor drainage management in monsoon will not only release foul smell but also the dampness, humidity will breed pests leading to serious health concerns for your family.
  1. Repair Leakages & Cracks ASAP
Heavy rains are one of the most responsible factors for leakages and cracks in the house. No to forget ones the leakages and cracks are developed it’s highly an expensive affair to treat them. So, it is advised to rectify them as soon as you spot them. Cracks and leakages both seeps water into your house and thus causes dampness leading to various hazards to health and hygiene of your house.
